25 Beautiful Examples of Typography Portraits @Creative Nerds

MSR Concep 1.1

I found this neat social media site for freelance designers where buyers//potential clients post a project which needs to be done & designers can respond to the job with a submission. Yes, you can get money for your work. However, your designs needs to be selected.

I found a good one just to get my feet wet as a freelance designer. I’m working on a logo for a radio personality. From my understanding of the creative brief the buyer wants cool and hip. I wanted to use bright, cool colors and keep it simple. Some of the best logos are simplest, e.i: American Airlines, American Apparel.

They were very tough on likeness on my design.

Not edgy enough. Do not like the color palette at all. The microphone is boring and predictable. The M to the S makes it look like a 6.

U8_Technologic Fat::Free Font frm The VS Project

u8_Tech-FREE-500x223

Lately, I’ve been extra busy with work, which always has me tired, and out looking for alternative jobs, as well as internships, which is why I’ve been neglecting Keep It Surreal readers. Nevertheless, my eyes are still open and my ears to the “streets.” I think I’ve been up to date with things going on around the city and what’s on the web. I just downloaded the U8 Technologic Fat font from The VS Project for free. I’m eager to use it, hopefully I get some time in to create an image to publish.

I got a new font today and I was eager to try it out, so, here it is! It’s Ballpark Weiner from DaFont.com if you’re trying to find it. I’m loving it right now, I think it’ll definitely be useful for future projects. It’s always good to have an arsenal of good fonts to represent your style of design of course.

IFC Center x Objectified

objectifiedDirected by: Gary Huswit

Friday, May 8 – Thursday, May 21

From the maker of HELVETICA comes a new documentary that explores the stuff that surrounds us and the people responsible for it. Interviewing design-world stars who create objects for Apple, Muji, IKEA and others, the film looks at the inspiration at work behind everything from toothbrushes to hi-tech gadgets. In thoughtful and revealing conversations, some of the world’s most influential designers illuminate the process of making their ideas concrete, and the increasingly urgent need to find sustainable design solutions for the future.

Participants currently include: Paola Antonelli (Museum of Modern Art, New York), Chris Bangle (BMW Group, Munich), Andrew Blauvelt (Walker Art Center, Minneapolis), IDEO (Palo Alto), Jonathan Ive (Apple, California), Dieter Rams (Kronberg, Germany), Karim Rashid (New York), Alice Rawsthorn (International Herald Tribune), Rob Walker (New York Times Magazine).

“Beautiful… a fascinating analysis of the design business exclusively from the vantage point of designers.”

Something Musiq pt.2

buddy

Just another variation of the first set I did, or we can even say a more completed version. I decided to add some type to, I guess, convey a message. I love type design, typography. I always here, “make type make meaning,” with that said: what does it mean to you? Or do you even like it?

I’m understanding my aesthetic in conjunction with self. In photography, I love high contrast photographs, as for design, I love a sleek and clean design, web 2.0 does that perfectly. But, more importantly, I love typography and headlining sans-serif fonts. One of my favorite font-families are Avante Garde or Century Gothic.

Check out Typophile.com if your interested in type. You get an undrstanding of different font types and hear designer opinions on specific topics, or get help and feedback. They also direct you to font foundaries. Check it out!

Neo-Contemporary Appeal

bizy-dreaming_font1

Bizy Dreaming is taking on a new font look to keep up with the most recent changes; the logo slightly changed so it makes sense for the typeface to change. I could be wrong, who’s to say I am or am not, but I feel like the entire Bizy Dreaming design is looking more neo-contemporary in each design. Feel free to contest that statement.

I like neo-contemporary!

Keep it (SUR)REAL

keep_it_surrealKeep It Surreal, Red 2008

I Don’t know if you have noticed on the top, it would say D.R.E.A.MxNYC. Well, D.R.E.A.MxNYC is mine, I mean, it was the beginning stage of my campaign. After D.R.E.A.MxNYC, I went further with the whole idea of dreaming etc. Bizy Dreaming came along after, and “Keep It Surreal” is the philosophy I like to follow.

Keep It Surreal will be one of the first designs for Bizy Dreaming prints – hopefully, if things work smoothly, there will be some variations to the Keep It Surreal design. I did the original design in December ’08 – which is probably the reason why I almost forgot to share with you all.

Keep It Surreal!

Branch 316xBizy Dreaming pt.1

branch316Branch 316 comp., Red 2009

New design for my boy Branch – I’ve been trying to do this for almost a year now. The process wasn’t difficult or drawn-out, I just procrastinate a little too much. I get caught up in so many other things I just loose sight of another.

flyer-apollo_night_bkApollo Night Flyer Comp. (back), Red 2009

Here it is! This is the reverse side to the Apollo Night flyer. I tried to be consisent with the feel of the front design – you never want to feel like you are looking at two different events.

I just resized the background image making it larger and only fitting what I want on the page. I also played around with the colors more.

BSUxBizy Dreaming

flyer-apollo_night_frApollo Night Flyer Comp. (front), Red 2009

November/December, I was offered an opportunity to work with Quinnipiac University’s Black Student Union on completing a flyer for The Apollo Night event, however, things didn’t go as planned and it was given to someone else. Nevertheless, design keeps pressing on. I decided to make a flyer anyway – good practice, and it’s a portfolio filler. Maybe they could use it next year when it comes back around. In lieu of doing the Apollo Night flyer, I will be doing the Fashion Show invitation.
