Under City Lights

I went out this week experimenting with the shutter speed and this was a result.

Keep on Printing

Ode to the print industry…

Video: Off The Wall NY x D’Face

I’ve stumbled across those wings on a Basquait painting. I loved it! But I never knew the artist. And of course it stood out, it’s on Basquiat filled with vibrant colors that poured out his wild style. When you scan the canvas and bring your eyes up, right out the ears are two wings. It’s similar to what Warhol did during the Pop movement, he took popular people or things and recreated them – his most popular ones, Madonna or the Campbell’s Soup. Instead, street artist might recreate an iconic symbol with their motif tagged on it. Kaws puts his mark on everything, most recently Tweety Bird.

Quick Shot x NYSF

I always been a fan of NYSF Photography. They’re definitely BIG at what they do and they happen to capture moments of life beautifully. Soho never looked better – the lighting in this photo is dope. Shout outs to Maine and Nell at NYSF.

Video: I Wanna Rock Preview

Update from I Wanna Rock | NYC Underground Event, SELL OFF! Kayla Bliss’ voice makes me smile, ha!

Pod Play: Red Cafe – Heart & Soul Of New York City

Brooklyn! WE DID IT… That’s how I feel when I hear a song like this from a Brooklyn artist. Jay was killing them with Empire State of Mind, and Red Cafe gives you Heart & Soul of New York City. Dunkers Delight in Wingate, what’s good? K1X added visuals to the Pete Rock produced song. Lyrics aside, I feel this way about anybody with a grind hard, keep grinding mentality coming out of Brooklyn. New York City, keep doing it!

Video: World Basketball Festival Day 1 x Jay-Z

On Friday Jay-Z put on electrifying performances at legendary Radio City Music Hall in New York, tipping off the inaugural World Basketball Festival.

One Love Queens

Queens is here! I don’t know, but for some reason I could fuck with Queens, you noticed I didn’t put up Harlem and the Bronx. Soft spoken, but a loud voice – Queens makes some noise.

“Gigante” NYC | Os Gemeos x Futura

Os Gemeos and Futura wrapped up production on their “Giant Project” mural in New York City. The piece can be seen on the side of PS11 at 320 West 21st.

Os Gemeos and Futura | “Giant Project” NYC

Os Gemeos and Futura have started working on their “Giant Project” in New York City, across the street from NYC’s PS1. The giant mural by the artists will soon be ready and here is their progress. Futura x Os Gemeos add international flags to the New York City scene.

Down By Law

Artwork (C) BLADE

Down by Law: New York’s Underground Art Explosion, 1970s and 19802 surveys a key period of street art creativity and includes works from New York’s most wanted (Martha Cooper, Cope 2, Mare 139, Keith Haring, Basquiat). Highlights range from painting by Coco 144, the Marcel Duchamp of the illegal art subculture, to rarely seen canvases by Dondi White. Down by Law opened last weekend at Eric Firestone Gallery in East Hampton, New York.

BSKY comes back re-invented

Wednesday July 28th was the official re-opening featuring Brooklyn’s own legendary DJ Clark Kent. Alot of the supporters were out in full numbers, and some of our favorite hometown heroes were also in the building as usual (Heavy Hitter Shortman Movements, Tek from Smiff and Wesson, Haitian V, and Dapa Flex). Bsky not only opened with a new look, it was a whole new feel, and also a new line of smooth new shirts.

More photos after the jump.

One Love Brooklyn

As part of the lead up to the World Basketball Festival, Nike Sportswear is connecting the Five Boroughs of New York City in a celebration of hoops, culture, and its iconic Air Force 1 sneaker. Theophilus London go hard in the paint!

The Original Hipster x Julia Chesky

The OG Hipster. Picture-perfect representation of a Clean Mess. Because you’re homeless, it doesn’t mean you have to look homeless. That goes for anything. And fuck all those label whores, men and women.

Parson School graduate Julia Chesky presents a fantastic series of photographs, entitled “The Original Hipster”. She shot the series with art director Ali Lee and homeless model Chris.

“Our lovely model, Chris, has lived on Mercer Street for a few decades by choice. I’m calling this series The Original Hipster because on most days he doesn’t even look like he’s truly homeless.“

What does a “finished” piece mean anyway?

The Hole NYC present ‘Not Quite Open for Business’. Is you roll’n?

The show is not about process-based art or deliberately “unfinished” artworks, it is about getting caught with your pants down and your lipstick smudged and your armpits sweaty because you didn’t have time to take a shower before YOUR FIRST GALLERY SHOW.

Peace.

Looks like Only NY pays homage to Keith Haring in this one. 2 Up, Peace.

Puma City x South Street Seaport

PUMA CITY has landed in New York’s South Street Seaport area for the duration of the World Cup. More than just celebrate the beautiful game – offering a unique playing, shopping, and viewing space – PUMA CITY celebrates sustainable architecture. Their mobile structures are built with containers. PUMA CITY will be bumping through July 11, 2010.

Rosson Crow “Bowery Boys” Book

OHWOW presents their latest publication – the “Bowery Boys” book by Rosson Crow.

News: World Basketball Festival

Tradition. Love. Innovation.

Converse. Jordan Brand. Nike.

Three brands, three themes, colliding in a massive celebration of the game that’s fueled them all – basketball.

Last week in New York, Nike announced the “World Basketball Festival” (“WBF”), a three day blowout set for August 12-15 in New York City. Three pivotal locations are tapped for events – Madison Square Garden, Times Square, and Rucker Park.

Fake Dragon

I been operating last minute lately, and lately it’s been good. I got to grab a bite with some friends from school – I lied and said I’ll put them up – they know who they are though. We ate, walked the promenade, around DUMBO, and back to EHS housing. Today was a good day. Laidback.

Video: Guerilla Style Marketing

Iloveit man, while half the city is asleep, he’s working literally. Homeboy Sandman’s The Good Sun is out now, go support great hip-hop, and hardwork.

Church Ave.

I went to Stella’s Bar & Restaurant in the city to watch the game. Good beer and good eats, great combo. I wish I would have taken a picture. However, that’s not what I wanted to discuss. The mosaic murals on Church avenue are just example of great art throughout the city. In a melting pot like New York City, I’m glad you can find a little culture outside of the hustle and bustle. I’m always looking for culture – this is home.
