Video: Super Sexy CPR

So it’s been a while since my last post. Sue me, I’ve been busy. And by busy, I mean doing absolutely nothing. Hey, it’s summer vacation right?

Anyway, I’m concerned about your well being. What if all of a sudden, you, or someone around you stopped breathing? Would you know what to do? Do you know how to deliver CPR? I want you to watch the following video very carefully, pay attention, and learn. Just in case.

Don’t say I never did anything for you. Visit supersexycpr.com for more.

Color Theory: Quick Reference Sheet for Designers

I found this stumbling. This is a great reference to refer to when designing or creating color pallets and I thought I’d share. I think it’d be cool as a large print out in your room, studio, or wherever your workstation is. There are also color picker / color theory programs available for purchase, however I sometimes use plain ‘ole color wheels, which may seem a little archaic, and other times I use Adobe Kuler.

Grime Textures

Two free high quality grime textures by Bizy Dreaming. The snow was crazy this weekend in Brooklyn and from what I heard, Long Island got it worse. I was coming home from work today, fortunately I had my camera, and the buses were just grimey with dirty snow residue, YUCK!  Anyway, here you go!

Download here.

You can gather your own textures with any digital camera you have laying down, it’s easy. Anything you find interesting or abstract can be used as textures for your work.

NY Straightforward

nysf_logo

Hey all, Keep It Surreal Online is slightly taking a different turn, nothing drastic. We’re just going to shine more light on the design culture, being that I am a young designer, young designers like myself might be more inclined to check it out, want to better their craft, or even get the chance to show off their work. I’m open to all ideas and any mediums of design. Especially if your in the tri-state area, SPEAK UP!

Check out NYSF after you leave here. NYSF is ran by two creatives from NYC, good friends of mine, Maine & Nell. Be on the look out for a Bizy DreamingxNYSF collaboration.

Spring Concert: Waking The Giant pt.2

spring_concert2_04

Like I said in the first article, which I probably didn’t clarify, I volunteered to help setup for the Spring Concert ’09 at my school, HELLO, GOODBYE and LUDACRIS. I really volunteered hoping to meet Ludacris backstage, maybe a new follower? I Tried. But it was cool though, the stage came out great, I got free food – my meal plan is low, and met some new people.

So I helped out the Student Government Association (SGA) E-Board/ the Student Center load-in and setup the stage for the Spring Concert, “Waking the Giant.” Thursday, April 16th, the first night we got started, we put together the entire stage; Friday, we setup the audio and lights. I also took a few photographs up at TD Bank North Sports Center.

T: Typophile

typophile-11

typophile-2

I’m understanding my aesthetic in conjunction with self. In photography, I love high contrast photographs, as for design, I love a sleek and clean design, web 2.0 does that perfectly. But, more importantly, I love typography and headlining sans-serif fonts. One of my favorite font-families are Avante Garde or Century Gothic.

Check out Typophile.com if your interested in type. You get an undrstanding of different font types and hear designer opinions on specific topics, or get help and feedback. They also direct you to font foundaries. Check it out!

Mike Mac x NYC Red

portrait_x_mike-mac

It’s 11:21 pm right now and I’m really not doing anything! It’s the first time in about a week – week and half, where I can afford to kill time. Key word, afford! At least I think. Anyway, I just was just pleasantly surprised. Mike Mac, a musician and illustrator, wanted me to critique a project. The project happened to be an illustrated portrait of me. I’m definitely digging the piece. I might do something else to it, not to redesign his work, but to force a collab.

I’m the subject of another designers work – feels good to know your hard work is recognized.

Check out his work on Flickr here

Be on the lookout for a NYC Red x Mike Mac collaboration!

WE DID IT

The order came in this morning at 9:39am; I’m feeling great. The shirts weren’t exactly how I wanted, but I’m still beyond reality right now. I won’t give you the satisfaction or dissatifaction of what was wrong, however it’s really miniscule.

Knotted Up

tie_a_tie_2

A tie knot for the advanced, I hope you already know how to tie a half-windsor; if not, take a shot at a more complex, bow tie. Refine your look with the classic shirt & tie combo.

PRACTICE, PERFECT, AND MASTER!

Jupiter Brass

j416s_lgJupiter 416 Pocket Trumpet (Silver), $679.00

More and more people are wanting and/or playing instruments, at least from what I hear in conversations, some of the more popular ones being, the piano and keyboard, the drums, and the guitar. I hardly ever hear anyone talking about any of the brass instruments. Well, I think I’ll be the first. I played the trumpet in maybe 5th or 6th grade, but I stopped and switched to the drums (I was definitely worse at the drums than the trumpet). I’m feeling inclined to shop for a trumpet. I’ve always wanted to be more connected with music s an art, will this be a new hobby?

Smile for Me!

fuji_rec

Just recently I purchased a FUJIFILM S2000HD digital camera from Circuit City – best choice I’ve made all week. (That’s kind of bad). Anyway, I’ve been taking pictures since I got it. That’s how it’s going to be for a while; I hope you don’t get tired of seeing several pictures a week.

This being my “first camera,” I have to get acquainted with the adjustments, different camera modes, and settings. I will have more time to mess around with the camera since the sun is out a little longer and hopefully it will be getting warmer soon.

Just smile for me!

Bread & Butter

Not much to really say, but relay some of the best advice I’ve gotten in a long time.

Advice:
Figure out what you like to do and get your bread and butter out of that. Find your own style of aesthetic.

So I tried to “screen print” my own t-shirt design, however, it did not come out as planned. The logo is wrong and the print came out sloppy.

Work-Flow

adobe-creative-suite-4-family

Coming off a 5-week vacation and adjusting back into a systemonic work-flow is gradually coming along. However, a 4-day weekend and a 3-day work week does not help incite any work output. Mentally, I know what needs to be done, but for me, I need to be constantly working.

Stencil ArtxScreen printing

Permaset Fabric PaintWhat you need for Stencil Cutting?

  1. Self-heal cutting mat or a sheet of glass to protect the table you are cutting on
  2. A blade to cut with. I highly recommend an X-ACTO KNIFE
  3. Thin acetate – The thick stuff is too hard to cut
  4. Sticky tape

It’s best to print stencil designs on to a piece of A4 photo paper. It makes a nice firm base to place the acetate on. A4 photo paper is available at most supermarkets now for a reasonable price.

You can buy single sheets of acetate from stationary and craft shops. Acetate works really well because to lies flat on the fabric once you apply ink. If you make your stencil out of paper it’s only going to get damaged and start buckling when you start to apply the ink.

If you don’t have a printer, you’ll have to go down to a local print shop [e.g. Kinkos, Staples, a Campus Copy (if your living on a college campus)]. Get them to print it on to some thick card.
