Grime Textures
Two free high quality grime textures by Bizy Dreaming. The snow was crazy this weekend in Brooklyn and from what I heard, Long Island got it worse. I was coming home from work today, fortunately I had my camera, and the buses were just grimey with dirty snow residue, YUCK! Anyway, here you go!
Download here.
You can gather your own textures with any digital camera you have laying down, it’s easy. Anything you find interesting or abstract can be used as textures for your work.
For New Eyes Only!
For my ‘Modern Design Culture’ class we were to create a movie poster for a film festival entitled For New Eyes Only. The idea is to bring classic films to new audiences. We have our posters hung up in Alumni Hall adjacent to our Student Center.
The Killers, 1946 movie poster + colophon after the jump.
Dream Out Loud
I stumbled on this postcard on Laidback. It really made me think about this journey in creating Bizy Dreaming x Keep It Surreal, a life of optimistic comfort, fun, style, and friendships… For those of you who don’t know what we do, Bizy Dreaming is a graphic design group that I’d like to start in the future, and everything else, like Keep It Surreal, falling under that cloud. Keep It Surreal would be the magazine accompanying the lifestyle of Bizy Dreaming.
Although the economic climate is wack right now, you really have to believe that it will be better, that you can be better, and that all things are possible if you just believe.

Keep it Surreal Magazine
If we was ever to have our own publication in the future, I’d come back to the very first design laid out, ever. Regardless of having a thinking design team, I’d go back to the very beginning; when it was just us. Sort of like a tribute to how it all started.
Here is our first cover design in the development stages. I’m going for a Noir themed design. I feel a little skeptical about the headline/logo text. The composition may be kearned to close compromising the space between “Keep and it” and “it and Surreal.”
Wax Poetics
The other day I started a design internship at Wax Poetics. Wax Poetics is a bi-monthly hip hop, jazz, latin, funk, and soul musiq magazine. I didn’t know anything about Wax Poetics prior to applying for the internship, but its a magazine you turn to if your trying to find out about and discover new musiq, and I love musiq. Each issue delves into the history of the topic genre featuring iconic figures, as well as new rising stars. It’s not like other magazines you subscribe to. You don’t want to throw out any past issues of Wax Poetics because it’s like throwing away a textbook, each issue is flooded, cover to cover, with history.
Let’s see where this internship takes me.

MSR Concep 1.2
Love the color pallette. the grunge is a bit too heavy. Can I see it without the grunge? I like the line on the bottom with the grunge distressed look
MSR Concep 1.1
I found this neat social media site for freelance designers where buyers//potential clients post a project which needs to be done & designers can respond to the job with a submission. Yes, you can get money for your work. However, your designs needs to be selected.
I found a good one just to get my feet wet as a freelance designer. I’m working on a logo for a radio personality. From my understanding of the creative brief the buyer wants cool and hip. I wanted to use bright, cool colors and keep it simple. Some of the best logos are simplest, e.i: American Airlines, American Apparel.
They were very tough on likeness on my design.
Not edgy enough. Do not like the color palette at all. The microphone is boring and predictable. The M to the S makes it look like a 6.
Here’s my card
Let’s network! I got the biz cards on Friday, and I’m ready to network. It’s time to make business connections and get the word out.
Creativity 100
After making 35 stops in downtown Brooklyn, on my way home from work, I picked up this Graphic Design book by Mark Oldach for $8. Creativity for Graphic Designers has a neat presentation and appears to be one of those sophistacted books you find at your school bookstore. I haven’t read pasted the panel and the contents page, but from my understanding it’s aimmed to help you create and develop fresh ideas, and keep those ideas flowing project after project. Let’s hope it’s not one of those cliche books.
@ Sole Food x Life is ART
Sorry for the delayed write-up, “Can I Kick It?” hosted by OSE., Yaz & Rizz22, and Sole Food NYC was different from what I expected. It was definitely a private affair, but I think I preferred it that way. For the first time, I got to see Pesu and Rizz22′s art. The atmos was very chill and the musiq was jumpin’. Old-Soulz and Sole Food hosted a knockout event, for me at least. Definitely the crowd I’d like to be around. “Can I Kick It?” was a sweet blend between street art and sneakers.
I met another artist and designer while I was there, See One. Cool dude! Two of my good friends came along for the ride, Sade and Nia. I hope they had a good time like I did. I really wish I had my business card to give them. I’m looking to get in touch with OSE. in the future, maybe I can get some support. Keep It Surreal!
After The Storm
After work on Friday, on my way home, I tried to conceptualize new ideas from old ideas and designs, and some ideas to put on paper as well. I’ve been thinking about mixing medias, using P R I S M A C O L O R markers and watercolours to get the start of a new look-book. Anyway, after the storm, around sunset, the sky was beautiful. It was maybe sepia toned. I wish I got the shot somewhere else, but my room window sufficed, and was convenient. I had to lower the aperature on my camera to get the color and the silhouette. I like the urban feel, the color looks great. I definitely need a Nikon.

Sanford: Prisma Markers
Tryna get back into the flow of things, get some pencil to paper.. then outline “the real,” any work, with prisma markers. NEED if I want to take a step up in a old medium. Getting the summer started..
NYC Skate Weekend’09
Check out some cool pics I took while I was at the 5Boro’s “Back to the Banks” skate jam. My brother called me, while he was at a closing ceremony for our elementary school which he’s been volunteering at, and told me come into the city with my camera. It was totally unexpected, but a cool experience and worth the trip. NYC Skate Weekend went on from June 4th – June 7th.
Think Print
I got a new font today and I was eager to try it out, so, here it is! It’s Ballpark Weiner from DaFont.com if you’re trying to find it. I’m loving it right now, I think it’ll definitely be useful for future projects. It’s always good to have an arsenal of good fonts to represent your style of design of course.
NY Straightforward
Hey all, Keep It Surreal Online is slightly taking a different turn, nothing drastic. We’re just going to shine more light on the design culture, being that I am a young designer, young designers like myself might be more inclined to check it out, want to better their craft, or even get the chance to show off their work. I’m open to all ideas and any mediums of design. Especially if your in the tri-state area, SPEAK UP!
Check out NYSF after you leave here. NYSF is ran by two creatives from NYC, good friends of mine, Maine & Nell. Be on the look out for a Bizy DreamingxNYSF collaboration.

Bizy Dreaming x Montage 2009
You haven’t seen one of these headline’s in awhile, Bizy Dreaming x “you”, or Bizy Dreaming x anyone else for that matter. I gave you an heads up a while back, that I’d be featured in a school publication, a publication, nevertheless. Anyway, it has arrived!!! I didn’t get what I wanted to be published, but I got something worthy of credit, so I’m excited about that. Next year, we are going for something better. I have a 3/4 page on page 18 for digital photography, check me out! This year’s edition of Montage is surprisingly far better than last year’s copy because more artists decided to step up. I have a few extra copies left from the ones I gave out, send me an email and we can work something out. Very limited copies!
Check out the featured photo (155th & 8th) here>>

Happy Mother’s Day Mommy =)
Don’t you wish I was your son. [LOL] I’m just joking with that statement, but Happy Mother’s Day Mommy! She’s the best, even when she makes ANGRY >:O . I think she partially spoils me. If I didn’t have any reserve, she would try to get me anything I’d ask for, she’d do the same for my brother and sister as well, but I’d settle for less as long as I have her. Happy Mother’s Day Mommy! Enjoi your day!

Baby Spike
Baby Spike! Ford started calling me Baby Spike as semester began to wind down and started to catch on – Doug, Ryan, Hersch, and I think Nic’. I decided to run with it ’cause Spike is a prominent figure in our culture and I wouldn’t mind my work being praised for its credit. Not only is Spike influential, he’s from Fort Green, in Brooklyn, and owns his own production company. Like that would be a surprise. Like Spike, I would love to have Harris-Williams-owned or related businesses in the future.
Happy Birthday Sade
Today is my cool best friend’s birthday. Happy Birthday Sade!!! She’s cool because she knows me [LOL], AND she has a Macbook. These past two weeks everyone has been having birthday’s, it ridiculous [j/k]. Everyone has been having birthday’s though, and today’s my bestie’s birthday. I don’t know how that word became so popular by the way. Anyway, I love her to death – I remember when we were younger, MUCH ANIMOSITY, and now she’s one of the most important people in my life. Happy Birthday Sade! Love you, Enjoi!
Check out a photo I did for her after the jump.

Happy Birthday Ford
Happy Birthday Ford, congratulations on being old! I never formally introduced you the Bizy Dreaming roster, but you’ll see who’s who in time. Anyway, it’s my boy Ford’s birthday today, he writes for the blog when time permits (he’s a good writer), and he’s the NYC-Long Island contact. Not too long ago, he gave me the name ‘Baby Spike,’ I’m running with that one, so when you see it, you already know. Show him love! He’s going to Towson next year to play football; good luck homie. You already know we’re out there. Happy Birthday! Enjoi!

Something Musiq pt.2
Just another variation of the first set I did, or we can even say a more completed version. I decided to add some type to, I guess, convey a message. I love type design, typography. I always here, “make type make meaning,” with that said: what does it mean to you? Or do you even like it?
