Balance

Nice design, I always feel that  Taoism/”yin and yang” correlate with  Cancer’s zodiac sign [69] or the crab.

Scrap work

pencil on parchment paper
pencil on parchment paper

I’m never doing what I’m suppose to be doing at the right time. I’m not drawing when I should be, working when I should be – I don’t follow instructions, haha. Damn, something like a fuck up. The one good thing about this community service is my doodles. When I’m bored, I try to find anything to draw or write on. When it doesn’t have any value I work best because the outcome isn’t important. Scrap paper, napkins, whatever it is.  I guess value means it has to account for something. I don’t want to give it any meaning.

Summer Read

…and I’m jus’ co-signing with this excerpt.

Church Ave.

I went to Stella’s Bar & Restaurant in the city to watch the game. Good beer and good eats, great combo. I wish I would have taken a picture. However, that’s not what I wanted to discuss. The mosaic murals on Church avenue are just example of great art throughout the city. In a melting pot like New York City, I’m glad you can find a little culture outside of the hustle and bustle. I’m always looking for culture – this is home.

Video: Window Seat – Erykah Badu

Erykah Badu is a true artist, she acts completely on the feeling of her art. In the video, she walks down the street where Pres. Kennedy was assassinated, and strips down until she reaches the spot where he was shot and where she would fall. Crazy concept, and really controversial.. In a mediated world, the public needs art. I like how she doesn’t tell the public how to think. Especially, because art is subjective, my experience, your experience, her experience is different cause we all saw differently in life. I was just sitt’n in my living room, watch’v VH1 Soul, and  it came up – first time I saw the video.

Stop’n Traffic

How powerful are books? Well they can apparently stop traffic if there’s enough of them. The clever folks at Luzinterruptus, put together temporary light-infused guerrilla art installations that are surreal and create a lovely scene in Brooklyn that I wish I could’ve encountered in person. More pictures and information about the piece can be found HERE.

Video: Her Morning Elegance

Stop-motion is also known as stop-action or frame-by-frame. It is an animation technique to make a physically manipulated object appear to move on its own. The Pillsbury Doughboy and Hamburger helper were created using Stop Motion Animation. Her Morning Elegance by Oren Lavie is a more recent incarnation that’s been put through their paces using computer graphics.

Sealed With a Simpson

Have you seen these Simpsons stamps? Just got wind of them via Design Observer. Seriously though, “Really, are these not among the best American stamps ever?

The brilliant new stamps honoring America’s first family of animation — the Simpsons. Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie, each in a classic head shot against a little rectangular patch of electric color, projecting maximum psychic and visual power. There was no action, sound, plot or space to help them out, only color, line, scale and lots of personality.

Art Adds

500 taxi cabs in the Big Apple will be ditching the familiar garbage ad’s ie: strip-club and vodka advertisements featured on their rooftop billboards. Instead, work by artists such as Shirin Neshat, Alex Katz, and Yoko Ono will be lighting up the city. Props to Show Media, who are the owners of the ad space, and John Amato, Show’s part-owner and art fan.

art adds to the public’s vision.

Korean artist Jin Young Lu creates transparent sculptures with expressive masks that she partially covers with nicely patterned clothes, and the result is quite astonishing. Wonderful ghostly figures that stair right at you.
