NewYorkCity Red… Come Up

For awhile I been front’n on my work, not really designing too much. I guess it was something like designers block [equivalent to writer's block]. I don’t want to say much about what I’ve been doing, but I’ve been going in and out of little creative spurts. If you never had a designer’s block, it’s going to happen, and if not kudos. The team I’m runn’n with got me on my toes, so jus’ keep an eye out for me in the cut. Shout out to my man Stan on the photo.

Fake Dragon

I been operating last minute lately, and lately it’s been good. I got to grab a bite with some friends from school – I lied and said I’ll put them up – they know who they are though. We ate, walked the promenade, around DUMBO, and back to EHS housing. Today was a good day. Laidback.

Complex & Waxpoetics

The new Complex and Waxpoetics issue jus’ came in today, finally! I didn’t get to read through ‘em yet, but it looks good. Russell Brand even signed my issue! Sike! There’s a piece on Guru in the Waxpoetics magazine I’m tryna look at, and DJ Amir is making bigger strides. Him and Kon [Kon and Amir] was on the Complex site, Top 50 songs I think, and now he’s made his way into the Waxpoetics issue. Good shit man..

Scrap work

pencil on parchment paper

I’m never doing what I’m suppose to be doing at the right time. I’m not drawing when I should be, working when I should be – I don’t follow instructions, haha. Damn, something like a fuck up. The one good thing about this community service is my doodles. When I’m bored, I try to find anything to draw or write on. When it doesn’t have any value I work best because the outcome isn’t important. Scrap paper, napkins, whatever it is.  I guess value means it has to account for something. I don’t want to give it any meaning.

Summer Read

…and I’m jus’ co-signing with this excerpt.

Oh yeah, I got a haircut

I had my braids for the longest, so it was a big deal when I cut it. Growing up I guess. Ghost did the honors of chopp’n off my  locks.

Brain Food

One thing that’s been a brain teaser for me is perceptions. Doing community service at a community development office I see everyone and everyone is said to have their own style. I think otherwise. Majority follow trends and a few create their own. It’s always easier to walk a paved path. Your style is suppose to be like your two-minute pitch. Boom, they say women know from the first minute of meeting you if they want anything to do with you [and I'm saying that gently]. That last minute you better sell yourself. So why not spend time creating. Otherwise, she might as well be dealing with Gucci or Trey. Not comparing the two. I digress, all she’s getting is a copy.

I can’t stand for anyone telling me what’s cool to say, dress, or act, etc. [I'm not a fan of the over usage of the word wavy now]. I’m doing whatever the fuck I want. I be in outer space, but I got inner peace [beaming]. I move to the rhythm of my own beat, and that’s what alot of people forget to do. Not that there are no flaws with me – that’s just what I’m seeing. The last convo I had with one of my boys, and a interaction I had with a little kid I knew growing had me like, damn. Everybody recognize it eventually. I don’t have a definition for my style, but that’s good. After you label something your stuck to that. Intellect? Nope. I’m not always looking for answers [ignorance is bliss... to an extent]. Graphic Designer? Nah, I do more than that. I just do what I do, you know?

Best Desserts: Bizy Dream’n x The Lamp NYC

Just recently I’d been working on a flyer design for The Lamp, a non-profit organization creating a movement to reform and improve media, & Always Order Dessert for Best Desserts at Double Windsor Bar. On June 9th New York City’s hottest food bloggers go at it in a dessert contest before a panel of celebrity judges…and you!

I’d been putting it off for a couple of days, you know how I do. Nevertheless, I everything was as promised – they approved. Chilly. I was going for a retro diner look with the typography. I wanted it to be homey, tasteful. If you look at the design, I kinda stole from Jim Jarmusch’s, a memo to a friend, layout +post. I really enjoyed that friendly feeling I got from it and I just wanted to use it. I’m a little hype about this because exposure is exposure, good or bad, people will know of you. In this case, it’s definitely good exposure.

Support The Lamp, hope to see y’all there.

Check out the flyer after the jump.

Church Ave.

I went to Stella’s Bar & Restaurant in the city to watch the game. Good beer and good eats, great combo. I wish I would have taken a picture. However, that’s not what I wanted to discuss. The mosaic murals on Church avenue are just example of great art throughout the city. In a melting pot like New York City, I’m glad you can find a little culture outside of the hustle and bustle. I’m always looking for culture – this is home.

Video: Wiz Khalifa x Toads Place

I procrastinated creating a Vimeo account, which prevented me from publishing this video. Anyway I decided to hit the Wiz Khalifa concert at Toads Place on York Street in New Haven. A few local artist hit the stage before Yelawolf opened for Mr. Khalifa man. Toads was packed like a regular Saturday night, except steady blunts and paper planes were being passed around. I managed to get the last song he performed on video despite the madness in the crowd.

Crackberry Macberry

I know y’all feel’n the new Macberry with the Clean Mess screensaver – I have the Apple OS X interface on my blackberry tour. Can you digg it? …Y E S S S WE CAN!

Nothing is Original

A memo to friends..

Elements of Fashion

Remember when I said I was on the hunt for fashion show flyers +I was designing a layout for BSU.. Well this ended up to what I submitted. I hardly had any direction or specification on what should be included. The theme for the night is elements – Elements of Fashion – water, earth, wind +fire. I wasn’t satisfied with the top typography but I was pressed for time, and other things were happening at the same time.
