Million Charming Creatures at Art4T Space

Film maker Jesse Fulton spent several evenings with Ben Brough at his studio quietly taking notes. Here is the full length version of Jesse’s film which includes an interview with Ben about his work, life, inspiration, and his friend Jeff Anderson. Ben follows on the tradition of the Beautiful Losers movement. His interest in art began to burn as he traveled the world in search of the perfect wave. Surfing remains both influence and passion.

Down by Law: New York’s Underground Art Explosion, 1970s and 19802 surveys a key period of street art creativity and includes works from New York’s most wanted (Martha Cooper, Cope 2, Mare 139, Keith Haring, Basquiat). Highlights range from painting by Coco 144, the Marcel Duchamp of the illegal art subculture, to rarely seen canvases by Dondi White. Down by Law opened last weekend at Eric Firestone Gallery in East Hampton, New York.

As part of the lead up to the World Basketball Festival, Nike Sportswear is connecting the Five Boroughs of New York City in a celebration of hoops, culture, and its iconic Air Force 1 sneaker. Theophilus London go hard in the paint!

Blu Mural in Berlin

So basically globally warming causes polar ice caps to melt due to greenhouse gases. Blu’s mural indicates that like sand in an hour glass, time is running out. Beyond that, he sums up global warming and it’s effects.

Marcus Burrowes | The Great Insurrection

Marcus Burrowes, founder and creative director of Rockers NYC. He was born in Kingston, Jamaica. Raised in the Rasta faith and was heavily influenced by Jamaican reggae culture. Tupac x Tyson | One Night In Vegas

We already know the events of the night. The same story has been told numerous times on VH1 and FUSE, but we get a different perspective – a different story. This should definitely be a lot more interesting than other documentaries, hearing what Tyson has to say on it.

ESPN 30 for 30 documents two of the most controversial figures in public media of the 90s in a film, One Night In Vegas. The documentary centers around the events of September 7th 1996 when ‘Pac was shot, after attending the Tyson v. Sheldon bout, and the relationship between the two. One Night In Vegas airs on the 14th anniversary [09.07.10] of Tupac’s death.

Pod Play: Wale – Ambitious Girl

Strong words from Wale with this one.

The Original Hipster x Julia Chesky

The OG Hipster. Picture-perfect representation of a Clean Mess. Because you’re homeless, it doesn’t mean you have to look homeless. That goes for anything. And fuck all those label whores, men and women.

Parson School graduate Julia Chesky presents a fantastic series of photographs, entitled “The Original Hipster”. She shot the series with art director Ali Lee and homeless model Chris.

“Our lovely model, Chris, has lived on Mercer Street for a few decades by choice. I’m calling this series The Original Hipster because on most days he doesn’t even look like he’s truly homeless.“

Video: And He Gets The Girl – Lupe Fiasco

I recently stumbled across this video at PMD. It’s a classic Lupe without the “fear,” one of my favorites at that. The video was expressive, Matthew Metoyer does well with typography and use of visual-aids.

What does a “finished” piece mean anyway?

The Hole NYC present ‘Not Quite Open for Business’. Is you roll’n?

The show is not about process-based art or deliberately “unfinished” artworks, it is about getting caught with your pants down and your lipstick smudged and your armpits sweaty because you didn’t have time to take a shower before YOUR FIRST GALLERY SHOW.
