Laidback present “Designed to Chill,” an interactive launch party and discussion on how great design can enhance relationships during Design Philadelphia. We will be creating our very own urban hang suite for you to relax and hang out, play with Wii and board games, and experience a sense of community. You will leave with quick easy pointers on creating a space of your own using color and conversation pieces, tips on creating game nights and the food and design to complement it. Laidback will also introduce new designs from the collection throughout the space.

Video: Lebron James, More Than A Game

I don’t know if it’s cold in the room, or if it’s the film. Featuring NBA great, Lebron James as himself, More Than A Game goes for inspirational and never backs down. More Than A Game takes a group of five guys from inner city Ohio and puts them on a long hard road to a national championship.

In theaters October 2nd

Good Eats: Take One

cali-tuna

(Pardon the cell phone pic) Initially I created “Good Eats,” the category, for times when I actually find good food. Obvious! I’m stuck in my ways when it comes to food, I eat what I know – I know what I eat. However, I knew it wouldn’t thrive for that long. Well, how could it? I don’t eat out often, if hardly, and the best food I eat, usually, is mom’s cooking. Any West Indians would already know whats on the dinner menu, those cultural delicacies. I’m trying to arouse my taste buds and get out more, eat different foods, experience different cultures, etc. This weekend I started off on a good foot. Friday, I made a second trip to the Publick Cup, in downtown New Haven, and enjoyed a toasted California Tuna: lemon and caper tuna salad (no mayo) with ripe avocado and fresh mozzarella on multigrain bread. With a Savannah… I’ll formally introduce the Savannah in a later post.

Don’t just scroll up/down to the next post, click the link and read =)

Perspective Chair x Pharrell

rtemagicc_pharrell_persepctivechair

Pharell does work. There is something eerily beautiful about the Perspective Chair. I love the relationship of the male to the female, somewhat sexual in nature, but so much more. Absolutely intelligent design. Pharell Williams is the artist behind this design. He collaborated with Domeau & Pérès to create this chair, another chair and table that will be part of a show in Paris.

I’ve been saying everything looks better in brown since I got some brown Ray-Bans this Summer. Now, I feel like carrying the same attitude into the Fall. Like Jay-Z has been doing with all black for a year, I’m going to try to do all brown for the rest of the year. I’ve been poking around some stores of value, you can find these tops @ Uniqlo in Soho, and the canvas shoes from Urban Outfitters (UO).

Bored to Death

Bored to Death. Great show.. I’ve been watching the trailers since July, I knew I wanted to test it out. The series premiere was Sunday @ 9:30pm, I was more than satisfied with what I saw. Jonathan Ames a book writer struggling with his career, gets caught up in detective novels and feels he can be do the same job. Funny thing is he ends up in weird situations. I find it quirkily funny, its almost foreshadowing my career. I hope not! lol

No Musiq!

no_musiq!

I’ve been going a couple of days, maybe a week, without “good” headphones. I’m mad hype. Back to the musiq, probably my second passion. I definitely want to work musicians in the future, SO GET AT ME! It’s real, I’m in love musiq, I’m in love with hip hop, I’m addicted to sounds.

I finally got some new headphones.

FIGHT SMACK IN THE ORPHANAGE | because orphans don’t have parents

Video: Black Dynamite

This is the story of 1970’s action legend Black Dynamite. When “The Man” murders his brother, pumps heroin into local orphanages, and floods the ghetto with adulterated malt liquor, Black Dynamite is the one hero willing to fight all the way from the blood-soaked city streets to the hallowed halls of the Honky House.

The G.O.A.T., Michael Jordan

large_SPT jordan 4

The best to ever do it. The G.O.A.T. (greatest of all-time), Michael Jordan was inducted into the Hall of Fame Sept. 11, 2009; but don’t think he’s ready to go into the pasture and graze, as he described to Michael Wilbon. In Jordan’s induction speech, MJ’s thank you list went well beyond friends and family. There was the coach who cut him. The player who dissed him. The media who doubted him.

Anyone who ever provided Jordan with motivation to become a better player.

When I watched MJ’s induction speech, I thought back to when my brothers, Chris, Al, and I would watch the games out in the living room. Every time we got out the house and stepped on the court we tried to emulate MJ, everyone in Wingate did, whether it was on the monkey bars, tryna Rock-the-Cradle with our tongues out, or on the courts tryna hit that last shot.

Conversation with Michael Wilbon after the jump.

810 Musik

810_Glass_halfFull

810 is a mellow chilled back type of guy, but no slump when it comes to the mic. 20 years old from Baltimore, MD, 810 started rapping at the age of 11, only to hone his skills in high school, where he went to say, “I would often try to impress people with my talent. I started to gain more confidence when people would pull me off to the side like ‘yo you can actually spit’.” 810 has a polished flow along with metaphoric wordplay bound to command the attention and groove of new listeners.

He’s working on a New Tape Called “Glass Half Full” due out in November 12th.

Hans Haacke: The 9-11 Poster Project

Hans Haacke’s Poster Project appeared on scaffolding’s and walls throughout New York City from March 11-25, 2002. Personally, I think Hans Haacke’s Posters effectively represent all the emotions that come along with remembering Sept. 11th better than any other poster or “We Will Never Forget” slogan. He uses the negative space as a symbol of the missing tower – that is what I saw when I after I looked a second time. When you first look, you also notice what is behind his poster. And that is what I feel is effective in his design. Everyone continues to live their lives, carrying out there day-to-day activities, however the void of the towers can never be filled.

I don’t even remember ever seeing or actually noticing these Posters throughout the city because I was oblivious to detailed and everything other than Yugi-oh cards and video games. Ha ha, I was about twelve or thirteen at the time.

Pride in Pin Stripes

derek_jeter

Derek Jeter has tied the New York Yankees record for hits held by Lou Gehrig. Jeter singled in the seventh inning for his third hit Wednesday night against Tampa Bay, matching Gehrig with 2,721 hits in a Yankees uniform.

Sometime this week, Derek Jeter will break Lou Gehrig’s record for all time hits as a Yankee.

When Jeter does so, he will have accomplished the feat at the New Yankee Stadium–and it will be the first historic Yankee moment unrelated to the Stadium itself to occur there.
