Dyen BxBizy Dreaming

Dyen B, by Red 2009
I been feeling a little more productive since I started this blog. I’m more hands-on & “do it yourself” on things design relate. As for school, I couldn’t say the same. I just have too much free time, so I devout to it to you guys/this blog. Anyway, I found a great opportunity on Friday. An opportunity for clientele and more work. Dyen B.

Branch 316 comp., Red 2009
New design for my boy Branch – I’ve been trying to do this for almost a year now. The process wasn’t difficult or drawn-out, I just procrastinate a little too much. I get caught up in so many other things I just loose sight of another.

Apollo Night Flyer Comp. (back), Red 2009
Here it is! This is the reverse side to the Apollo Night flyer. I tried to be consisent with the feel of the front design – you never want to feel like you are looking at two different events.
I just resized the background image making it larger and only fitting what I want on the page. I also played around with the colors more.

Apollo Night Flyer Comp. (front), Red 2009
November/December, I was offered an opportunity to work with Quinnipiac University’s Black Student Union on completing a flyer for The Apollo Night event, however, things didn’t go as planned and it was given to someone else. Nevertheless, design keeps pressing on. I decided to make a flyer anyway – good practice, and it’s a portfolio filler. Maybe they could use it next year when it comes back around. In lieu of doing the Apollo Night flyer, I will be doing the Fashion Show invitation.
ONLY NY – Old New York Subway Archives

During the Graffiti Movement New York City was truly a canvas, which is heavily depicted in the photos. The photos have an authentic vintage and grungy feel which is hard to replicate nowadays.

Bizy Dreaming x Screen printing pt.1

So I tried to “screen print” my own t-shirt design, however, it did not come out as planned. The logo is wrong and the print came out sloppy.

Work-Flow

Coming off a 5-week vacation and adjusting back into a systemonic work-flow is gradually coming along. However, a 4-day weekend and a 3-day work week does not help incite any work output. Mentally, I know what needs to be done, but for me, I need to be constantly working.

Levi’sxBizy Dreaming
Slim Straight 514 Levi Jeans, $49
Levi 514 Slim Straight’s are probably one of, if not the most comfortable Levi’s of the collection. It’s not like the 511′s that are super skinny or the 501′s that are hard denim, the jeans aren’t loose fitting or fitted for that matter. 514′s just fit comfortably. Nevertheless, depending on your preference, opinions may vary.
Nike Boots
Nike Air Max Goadome, $149
I wasn’t always a fan of Nike Boots until recently. I just copped my first pair a couple weeks ago and I’m thinking about getting another. I just feel like you can’t go wrong with it – throw on sum Levi’s 514 Slim Straight, cuff the pants foot, and let it sit on top of your boots. It’s a complement to a simple and stylish outfit you have on. It’s still street but stylish in the end.
Wacom Bamboo
Wacom Bamboo $79
This little piece of device is the rationale behind the previous post. I practically fell in love the first time I used the Wacom Bamboo Tablet this past week. I had the Wacom Graphire2 Pen, Mouse & Tablet Set, but I never really learned how to use it. I just started using the Bamboo in class – I would like to say it is the closest to having pen-to-paper within reasonable pricing, but I haven’t had any extensive practicing to make that judgement. Nevertheless, it is a paradigm for computer tablets within reasonable pricing. The Bamboo has a clean and sleek design, looking more classy than the Graphire2 or any other tablet on the market.
Nerd x Geek?
So I said I would be posting something new about myself every now and then. Lately, I’ve been called a couple different names (e.g. nerd, geek, loser, weirdo). The names seem to have gotten worse as I continued to list them. I’ve been called this by friends, so it doesn’t necessarily mean anything, nevertheless, it brings up a question.
Am I a geek or a nerd? [LOL]

Stencil ArtxScreen printing
What you need for Stencil Cutting?
- Self-heal cutting mat or a sheet of glass to protect the table you are cutting on
- A blade to cut with. I highly recommend an X-ACTO KNIFE
- Thin acetate – The thick stuff is too hard to cut
- Sticky tape
It’s best to print stencil designs on to a piece of A4 photo paper. It makes a nice firm base to place the acetate on. A4 photo paper is available at most supermarkets now for a reasonable price.
You can buy single sheets of acetate from stationary and craft shops. Acetate works really well because to lies flat on the fabric once you apply ink. If you make your stencil out of paper it’s only going to get damaged and start buckling when you start to apply the ink.
If you don’t have a printer, you’ll have to go down to a local print shop [e.g. Kinkos, Staples, a Campus Copy (if your living on a college campus)]. Get them to print it on to some thick card.
Tools of The Trade

Some of the tools I can’t do without, as far as designing, would definitely be my Macbook, of course, a few pencils and pens, a ruler, and an X-acto knife. A self-healing cutting board is also great, but that’s more the designers with a studio and space.
To Know Me, Is To Love Me
Who Am I?
I’m a student and visual artist. I like to use the term visual artist, rather than graphic designer because there is more to graphic design than just designing graphics. Essentially we make art on different mediums in a logical and aesthetically pleasing approach looking at juxtaposition and composition and so on.
